Configuring Firefox and Chrome for Screen Share

Table of contents
  1. 1. CHROME
  2. 2. FIREFOX

You can use any browser to start or join a screen share, but Firefox and Chrome can be configured to make joining a session a bit faster.

CHROME

With the current version of Chrome, you'll always see a message prompting you to click either Keep or Discard the screen share file upon download. Once you configure the browser to automatically open the file, however, clicking Keep will be the only thing you need to do.

1) When joining a screen share session for the first time, click Keep:

2) Once the file is downloaded, select Always open files of this type:

3) Now click on the file to open it and start your session.

FIREFOX

1) When your first screen share file is downloaded, set three things:

  • Under What should Firefox do with this file?, select Open with
  • The drop-down menu to the right of Open with should already be set, but if not, change it to Java(TM) Web Start Launcher. If you don't see that option, download and install Java here
  • Check the box next to Do this automatically for files like this from now on

2) Click OK

From now on, you will simply need to click OK any time you join a Screen Share session.
